Day Hire Routes

North: Towards Marple

North towards Marple is Bollington and Lyme Park through beautiful countryside.

The old mill town of Bollington offers good moorings, many pubs and shops nearby. The Adelphi and Clarence Mills offer shops and cafes.
Cruising time: 1hr.

Further on, Lyme Park NT House and Country Park featuring rolling parkland with deer. Moor at bridge 15, access via footpath.
Cruising time: 4hrs+

South: Towards Bosley

South towards Congleton, excellent moorings at Gurnett and Oakgrove.
Picturesque Gurnett is a popular spot for boaters with The Old King's Head and Sutton Hall nearby.
Cruising time: ½hr.

Wooded Oakgrove has an electronic swing bridge (49) as well as many mooring places.
Cruising time: 1½hrs.

Further south are Bosley locks.

Astra does not go through the locks and there is a turning point here. Cruising time: 2½hrs.

Bollington

Bollington offers good moorings, many pubs and shops nearby. The Adelphi and Clarence Mills offer shops and cafes. Cruising time: 1 hour.

Miners Arms (Bridge 18)

Good food and amusements for children. A recommended half way point before turning back. Cruising time: 3 hours.

Lyme Park

Boars Head (Bridge 15): Bar meals at lunchtime only. Cruising time: 4hrs.
Lyme Park NT House and Country Park feature rolling parkland with deer. Moor at bridge 15, access is via footpath.

Gurnett Aqueduct

The Old King's Head: Excellent moorings although busy during summer, good value food. Also Sutton Hall, a hotel and restaurant with fine food and wine. Cruising time: ½hr.

Oakgrove

A key operated BW electronic swing bridge.Good moorings. Cruising time: 1½hrs.

Bosley Locks

A fine flight of 12 locks with double mitre gates, there cannot be many flights of locks as stunningly scenic as those at Bosley. Often busy during the summer months.

Note: Astra does not go through the locks and there is a turning point here.
